Unvented Hot Water Cylinders Leeds | The Benefits of Installation
After first being introduced in the UK in 1986, unvented hot water cylinders have grown in popularity with homes up and down the country. But how do they work and what are the benefits of having an unvented system? Read on this week as we explore unvented hot water cylinders.
What Are Unvented Hot Water Cylinders?
Unvented hot water cylinders are a system that can deliver hot water at mains pressure. With unvented, there’s basically no need for a cold water tank, instead, the sealed hot water cylinder is fed directly by the cold water mains. An unvented cylinder is also kept under pressure from the incoming water supply and is heated by either an immersion heater or an outside vessel such as a boiler. Because they operate at mains pressure this results in much better flow rates for the home. In a nutshell, this means much better baths and a higher performing shower experience. If you’re also curious about the difference between vented and unvented cylinders, last year we wrote a blog post explaining the characteristics of the two.
The Advantages of Unvented Systems
Now let’s get to the benefits of unvented hot water cylinders. Unvented systems are advantageous because they are so efficient. They also distribute hot water throughout your home at mains pressure and then store when not in use. Other advantages include fast filling baths and drinking water at all taps. There are also no restrictions on where they can be installed and they utilise existing pipework. Because there is also no need for a feeder tank in your loft, unvented hot water cylinders are the perfect solution for saving space in the home. If your property also has more than one bathroom, for instance, and ensuite plus cloakroom, unvented systems are ideal to meet this demand for simultaneous hot water.
The Disadvantages of Unvented Systems
Like anything, there’s always a small downside and in particular, these systems can be hard to install. They need the skills of a professional installer and so it’s not something you can install yourself. Disadvantages aside, however, as what you get in return is far more valuable. So wave goodbye to stop-start showers when somebody else is using a tap.
